Teaching Summer Enrichment in NE Philly

This July, not only did I work at the Rosenbach Museum & Library, but I also took on a teaching artist position with Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership. Three days a week I'd drive up 76 to H.R. Edmunds Elementary in northeast Philadelphia to work with 45-125 students grades k-9 ... it was an experience. I think the kids made some great work though (when they weren't running around screaming and choking each other), and I'll have a few posts of the different projects soonish. (My iPhone blog app keeps crashing with the multitude of photos ... oh well.) One thing I learned: you definitely have to roll with the punches when you're dealing with the school district (and there are a lot of punches).

Mosquito Week

It's the height of summer ... You don't see the swarm swimming through the humid air ... All of a sudden ... mosquito attack!

Balancing work and artwork

I've been carrying around a little sketchbook my cousin gave to me (thanks, Alyce!) ... When all else fails, doodle.

Next up, animation!

Organization is a thing of Beauty

Working as an IT Coordinator, making spreadsheets, filing, copying ... it's got me rethinking charts. The correlations between my paying job and my artwork were never so clear, and I think I need to make more spreadsheets. What should I document? What manual should I write next? This deserves more exploration. In the meantime, I'll be writing a tech manual for a small non-profit museum.
